Ingredients

1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)

1 medium apple (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), cored and thinly sliced

8 ounces Brie cheese (rind removed and cut into thin slices)

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)

1 tablespoon honey (optional, for drizzling)

1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional, for added crunch)

Flour (for dusting)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside to prepare for baking.

Prepare the Apples: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the thinly sliced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Toss gently until all the apple slices are evenly coated with the mixture. If you’re opting for added crunch, mix in the chopped nuts here.

Prepare the Puff Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet to remove any creases or folds, achieving a smooth texture. Shape it into a rectangle approximately 10x14 inches.

Create the Braids: Carefully make diagonal cuts along one long edge of the pastry rectangle, spacing the cuts about 1-inch apart. Be sure to stop cutting about 2 inches from the edge to leave space for filling. This will create the strips for braiding.

Layer the Filling: In the center of the uncut portion of the pastry, layer the Brie slices first, followed by the spiced apple mixture. Ensure there is enough space at the edges free from filling to allow for braiding.

Braid the Pastry: Starting from the left side, fold the pastry strips over the filling, alternating sides to form a braid effect. Continue this pattern until the entire filling is enclosed. Press the edges and tuck the ends beneath the braid to secure it.

Egg Wash & Bake: Brush the entire surface of the braid with the beaten egg to give it a rich golden hue when baked. Transfer the pastry to the prepared baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.

Serve: Once baked, allow the braid to cool slightly. If you like, drizzle with honey for an added touch of sweetness. Slice and serve warm to fully enjoy the gooey Brie experience!

                  Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 45 minutes | Servings: 6-8

                    - Presentation Tips: For an elegant touch, serve the braid on a wooden cutting board garnished with fresh apple slices and a drizzle of honey.
