Ingredients

For the Crispy Garlic Tofu:

1 block (14 oz) firm tofu, drained and pressed

3 tablespoons cornstarch

3 tablespoons vegetable oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon soy sauce

1 teaspoon sesame oil

Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Bowl:

2 cups cooked jasmine rice (or brown rice)

2 cups steamed broccoli florets

1 cup shredded carrots

1 avocado, sliced

¼ cup scallions, chopped

¼ cup toasted sesame seeds

Soy sauce or teriyaki sauce, for drizzling

Optional: chili flakes or sriracha for a spicy kick

Instructions

Prepare the Tofu:

    - Begin by cutting the pressed tofu into uniform bite-sized cubes. Pat the cubed tofu dry with paper towels to eliminate any excess moisture, which helps in achieving a crispy texture.

      Coat the Tofu:

        - In a medium mixing bowl, gently toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until they are evenly coated. This layer will provide the desired crunch when cooked.

          Fry the Tofu:

            - Pour the vegetable oil into a large non-stick skillet and heat it over medium-high heat. Once the oil is shimmering, add the cornstarch-coated tofu cubes in a single layer, ensuring there’s space between them for even cooking. Fry for approximately 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the tofu is golden brown and crispy. If necessary, fry the tofu in batches to prevent overcrowding.

              Add Garlic:

                - Once the tofu is crispy, lower the heat to medium and add the minced garlic to the skillet. Stir-fry the garlic with the tofu for an additional 2-3 minutes, being careful to monitor it closely so it becomes fragrant without burning.

                  Season the Tofu:

                    - Pour in the soy sauce and sesame oil, gently tossing the tofu to ensure it is coated in the flavorful mixture. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and allow to cook for another minute to heat the sauces through.

                      Assemble the Bowls:

                        - To serve, start by placing a generous scoop of cooked rice at the bottom of each serving bowl. Layer on the steamed broccoli florets, a handful of shredded carrots, the crispy garlic tofu, and finally, the sliced avocado.

                          Garnish:

                            - Finish each bowl with a sprinkle of chopped scallions and toasted sesame seeds. Drizzle with your choice of soy sauce or teriyaki sauce, and if you enjoy heat, add a pinch of chili flakes or a drizzle of sriracha on top.

                              Serve and Enjoy:

                                - Serve your crispy garlic tofu bowls immediately to retain the tofu’s crispiness. Relish this delightful and nutritious meal packed with flavor!
