Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon sugar

1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast

¾ cup warm water (approximately 110°F or 43°C)

2 tablespoons olive oil (plus additional for brushing)

4 cloves garlic, minced

2 teaspoons dried oregano

2 teaspoons dried basil

1 teaspoon dried parsley

½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for a spicy kick)

Freshly ground black pepper to taste

Coarse sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

Activate the Yeast:

In a small bowl, pour the warm water and add the sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top. Allow the mixture to sit for approximately 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy, indicating the yeast is active.

      Make the Dough:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt using a whisk. Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients. Pour in the activated yeast mixture along with the olive oil. Stir the mixture until it forms a shaggy dough.

          Knead the Dough:

Transfer the dough to a floured surface. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough feels too sticky, sprinkle in a little extra flour as needed to achieve the right consistency.

              First Rise:

Place the kneaded dough into a lightly greased bowl. Cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap to retain moisture. Set it in a warm environment to rise for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

                  Prepare the Garlic Herb Mixture:

While the dough is rising, mix the minced garlic, oregano, basil, parsley, red pepper flakes (if desired), and freshly ground black pepper in a small bowl. Set this aromatic mixture aside for later.

                      Roll Out the Dough:

Once the dough has risen, gently punch it down to release the air, then transfer it to a floured surface. Roll the dough out into a rectangle shape, approximately 12 inches by 8 inches.

                          Add the Herb Mixture:

Generously brush the rolled-out dough with olive oil. Evenly spread the garlic herb mixture over the surface, ensuring you cover all edges to enhance every bite.

                              Cut and Twist:

Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice the dough into strips about 1 inch wide. Carefully twist each strip a couple of times and lay them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

                                  Second Rise:

Cover the twisted flatbreads with a cloth and let them rise for another 20-30 minutes, allowing them to puff up.

                                      Preheat Oven:

As the flatbreads rise, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

                                          Bake:

After the second rise, sprinkle the flattened twists with coarse sea salt. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown and irresistible.

                                              Serve:

Remove the twists from the oven and let them cool slightly on a wire rack to enjoy their delightful aroma. Serve warm as a delicious appetizer or delightful snack. Enjoy every heavenly bite!
