Ingredients

1 lb ground turkey

1 medium onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 red bell pepper, diced

2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and diced

1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed

1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed

1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes

2 cups chicken broth

2 tbsp olive oil

2 tsp chili powder

1 tsp ground cumin

1 tsp smoked paprika

½ tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)

Lime wedges (for serving)

Instructions

Prep the Base: Begin by heating the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Once hot, add the diced onion and sauté for approximately 5-7 minutes, or until the onion is soft and translucent. Next, stir in the minced garlic and diced red bell pepper, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes until fragrant and the bell pepper begins to soften.

Brown the Turkey: Introduce the ground turkey to the pot, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook the turkey for about 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it is browned and cooked through with no pink remaining.

Add Sweet Potatoes and Spices: Incorporate the diced sweet potatoes into the pot along with the chili powder, ground cumin, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Stir well to ensure the sweet potatoes are coated in spices, and allow to cook for 2-3 minutes to let the flavors meld.

Combine Liquids & Beans: Pour the crushed tomatoes and chicken broth into the pot. Add the drained and rinsed kidney beans and black beans, stirring everything together thoroughly to combine.

Bring to a Simmer: Increase the heat to high, bringing the chili to a simmer. Once it reaches a boil, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer gently for about 25-30 minutes. This allows the sweet potatoes to become tender and the flavors to develop beautifully.

Taste & Adjust Seasoning: Before serving, taste the chili and adjust the seasoning as needed, adding more salt, pepper, or cayenne pepper for an extra kick, depending on your preference.

Serve: Ladle generous portions of the hearty turkey and sweet potato chili into bowls. Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro on top and serve lime wedges on the side, allowing each diner to add a zesty squeeze of lime to their dish.

                Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour | Servings: 6

                  - Presentation Tips: Consider serving the chili in colorful bowls and placing a few lime wedges and cilantro sprigs on a decorative tray nearby, creating a warm and inviting presentation for your guests.
