Ingredients

1 block (14 oz) extra-firm tofu

3 tablespoons honey (or agave syrup for a vegan alternative)

3 tablespoons Sriracha sauce

2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 tablespoon sesame oil

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger

1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)

2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Salt and pepper, to taste

Cooking spray or oil, for grilling

Instructions

Prepare the Tofu: Begin by pressing the tofu to eliminate excess moisture. Wrap the block in a clean kitchen towel and set a heavy object, such as a cast iron skillet, on top. Allow the tofu to drain for at least 30 minutes. After pressing, cut the tofu into thick slices (about ¾ inch thick).

Create the Marinade: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the honey (or agave syrup), Sriracha sauce, soy sauce (or tamari), rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and freshly grated ginger. Whisk the mixture until all ingredients are thoroughly blended and cohesive.

Marinate the Tofu: Transfer the sliced tofu into a resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish. Pour the prepared marinade over the tofu, ensuring that each slice is well-coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish, then refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, allowing it to marinate. For a stronger flavor, marinate for up to 2 hours.

Preheat the Grill: Set your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Lightly grease the grates with cooking spray or a brush of oil to prevent sticking.

Grill the Tofu: Once the grill is hot, carefully remove the tofu from the marinade (set the marinade aside) and place the slices on the grill. Grill each side for approximately 5-6 minutes, or until you achieve appealing grill marks and the tofu is heated through.

Glaze the Tofu (Optional): In the last few minutes of grilling, brush the reserved marinade on the tofu for a glossy finish and an extra flavor kick. Ensure you allow the tofu to cook long enough to eliminate any harmful bacteria from the raw marinade.

Serve: Once nicely grilled, remove the tofu from the grill and arrange it on a serving platter. Garnish with sesame seeds and freshly sliced green onions. Enjoy the grilled tofu hot as a delightful main dish, or incorporate it into a wrap, salad, or rice bowl for a satisfying meal.
