Ingredients

For the Salted Caramel:

1 cup granulated sugar

6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small cubes

1/2 cup heavy cream at room temperature

1 teaspoon sea salt

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

For the Apple Filling:

4 medium tart apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced thinly

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Pinch of salt

For the Crumble Topping:

1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed or grated

Instructions

Make the Salted Caramel:

    - In a medium saucepan, heat the granulated sugar over medium heat. Stir constantly with a wooden spoon or heat-resistant spatula until the sugar melts completely and turns a deep amber color, approximately 5-7 minutes.

      - Carefully whisk in the cubed butter until it has fully melted. Gradually pour in the heavy cream while continuing to whisk (be cautious, as the mixture will bubble vigorously).

        - Remove the pan from heat and stir in the sea salt and vanilla extract. Set aside to cool slightly.

          Prepare the Apple Filling:

            - In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples with the lemon juice, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Toss together until all the apple slices are well coated. Set aside to let the flavors meld.

              Make the Crumble Topping:

                - In a medium bowl, mix together the oats, flour, both sugars, cinnamon, and salt. Stir until thoroughly combined.

                  - Add the cubed or grated butter to the mixture, using your fingers or a pastry cutter to work it in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

                    Assemble the Crumble:

                      - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

                        - Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish and evenly spread the prepared apple filling across the bottom.

                          - Drizzle half of the cooled salted caramel over the top of the apple layer.

                            - Evenly distribute the crumble topping over the apples and caramel, ensuring a good coverage.

                              - Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the crumble topping is golden brown and the apples are fork-tender.

                                Final Touch:

                                  - Once baked, remove the crumble from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes. Drizzle the remaining salted caramel over the top for an extra touch of sweetness.

                                    Serve:

                                      - Serve warm, topped with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream if desired. Enjoy the delightful combination of sweet and salty flavors in each bite!
